La Morada

La Morada (the dwelling place) is a lovely villa, SentWell’s development and care center. Located near Malaga, Spain, this 8000 square foot, four acre property is a place set aside to help cross-cultural workers thrive.

We chose the name La Morada (The Dwelling Place) to remind us of the power of God's presence and the beauty of His unwavering commitment to be "with" His people. Within the sacred space of La Morada, individuals, teams, and marriages are healed. It is a place where cross-cultural struggle is normalized, disappointments are grieved, and hearts are freed. Dwelling with God while growing in our ability to dwell with one another is a central component to how we understand “thriving.” SentWell believes that the fruit of such “dwelling” will inspire and empower cross-cultural workers, and will sustain the important kingdom initiatives to which they have been called.  

What can I expect?

La Morada has 4 ensuite bedrooms, a large kitchen, a spacious living room/dining room and more wonderful outdoor spaces than we will take the time to describe.  All of the common spaces, including the pool, are available to guests. We are 15 minutes from the airport and a 5 minute walk from restaurants, a grocery store, a pharmacy and a park. Several trailheads are a short drive from La Morada’s front gate. On the property you will find laundry facilities, high speed internet and a fully equipped kitchen for guests to use. 

Jeff and Candy Campbell are the SentWell staff couple that live on site to help with any questions about the area or about La Morada. In addition to being a part of our care team, they are skilled question-askers and coffee-sippers. La Morada is a safe space to unwind, to breathe, and to enjoy the unhurried, welcoming environment that is most conducive to healing and growth. We believe that beauty and hospitality are crucial components to our multidisciplinary approach to care and development. Jeff and Candy are important parts of that offering. They also make sure breakfast is available for guests.

Each month, La Morada is open for two weeks of intensives and offers one developmental retreat. Everything that happens in this sacred space is to foster health and wholeness for cross-cultural workers and their families. We understand the unique tensions and limited resources often connected to cross-cultural living. SentWell is committed to making a difference in the lives of “sent ones” by creating safe spaces to process and opportunities to grow. La Morada is an expression of that commitment!

Care & development or Personal retreat packages

Our packages provide a tailor-made care & development or retreat experience.  This means, prior to your stay we talk with you about your current circumstances and suggest what might best serve you.  We then put together a potential timetable for your stay at La Morada.  We know that our time with you is just a part of what God has in store for you so whilst you can expect to meet with a member of our team once or twice a day we will often leave space for solitude and reflection and for all that God wants to do in your life outside of your sessions with us during your stay.

Personal retreat packages

*The above figures are approximations for hours of service provided. The amount of time spent with service providers will depend on your needs when arriving at La Morada. 

For 4 day retreat packages, arrival day is Friday and check out of your room is by 12pm on the following Monday. 

For 5 day packages, arrival day is Monday and check out of your room is by 12pm on the following Friday. 

For 10 day packages, there are two options for arrival and departure. One option is a Monday arrival with check out of your room by 12pm on the second Wednesday. A second option is a Wednesday arrival with check out of your room by 12pm on the second Friday.

Pricing for La Morada

We suggest that you make a donation for your stay at La Morada. A starter pack of basic food items and transportation to and from the airport are provided as part of all packages. 

All of our SentWell staff are in full-time ministry and live on full support, however, your donation offsets the cost of maintaining and running this beautiful facility.

We are glad to receive any worker regardless of their ability to donate so please contact us if need any assistance.

Notes

• All suggested donations include transportation to and from the airport, and a starter pack of basic food items.

• Accommodation is on a self-catering basis, so please budget for other meals.

• For 4 day retreat packages, arrival day is Friday and departure is the following Monday.

• For 5 day packages, arrival day is Monday and departure is the following Friday.

• For 10 day packages, there are two arrival/departure options as follows:

  • Arrival day on Monday with a departure on the second Wednesday.

  • Arrival day on Wednesday with a departure on the second Friday.

Additional experiences

The following optional extra services (with guide/companion from SentWell team) can also be added to packages depending on availability:

• Whole day (7-8h) hiking trip - €20 per person (including transport and lunch)

• Half day (3-4h) hiking trip - €10 per car needed (including transport)

• Sightseeing trips: 

• Granada and the Alhambra - €75 per person (including transport, entrances and lunch)

• Nerja and Nerja caves - €50 per person (including transport, entrances and lunch)

• Malaga - €35 per person (including transport, entrances and lunch)

• Mijas (half day) - €10 per car needed

• Torremolinos beach (half day or full day) - €10 per car needed

Making your donation

There are 3 options for giving donations:

1. Novo guests may donate via internal transfer to fund number 9808-00

2. You may make a donation in euros via our Spanish bank account. 

3. You may make a donation in USD via our website.  

After your stay, you will be sent information about time spent with us which will include details of payment methods.  

Scheduling and La Morada

We have a “decision tree” for how we decide who we can receive here at La Morada.  We prioritize those request services from our umbrella organization, Novo, and cross-cultural workers serving in high risk areas with low access to resources.  

We schedule guests for packages up to four months in advance.  For example, reservations can be made for guests wishing to come in January from September the previous year, for February from October etc.  

Whether we can host guests depends on our team availability at the time. Additionally we consider the needs presenting, whether we are the best fit, or if it is best to refer you to others better positioned to help.

STEP 1:

Complete the Request for Services form. SentWell will evaluate your request and respond to you within 3 business days.

*SentWell provides care and development services for long-term cross-cultural and national workers. Our services are provided based on availability and fit with our team.

Please note, do not purchase tickets for travel until your request is fully confirmed by SentWell in Step 3.

STEP 2:

If SentWell is able to accommodate your needs, we will work with you to finalize the dates and details of your stay. At this stage we request you fill out a more detailed intake form.

If SentWell is unable to accommodate you at La Morada, we will be in touch with referrals or other options for services.

STEP 3:

Book your travel details to La Morada, Alhaurín de la Torre, Spain. SentWell will provide a Welcome Pack with more details regarding your upcoming visit to La Morada. These details will help you book your transportation to La Morada. Transfers to/from La Morada are available from Malaga airport (AGP) or Maria Zambrano train station in Malaga.
